I keep the AC at 76 during the day I believe, and around 72 overnight.2) Some of the newer smart thermostats (e.g. the Nest) have the ability to set a pin that is required to adjust the temperature.

Make sure he/she checks the following:1 - Furnace makes a "coughing noise"2 - Temperature in the house seems to be "feverishly" higher than it should be3 - The furnace fan doesn't seem to be moving/replacing the inside air as well as it should so the house doesn't seem to be "breathing" like it should.

In a great and perfect world your A/C would be zoned so you can set the temperatures for each floor, the norm however is that the thermostat is downstairs so the A/C turns off before it cools the upstairs.
