I normally use carpet on the stairs in rental properties as it is a lot cheaper to install and absorbs a lot more noise in hallways, etc.

thanks all for your input.I guess I knew all along the responses I was going to get. i'll keep my nose to the grinding wheel and pay off the debt and get started at the beginning of 2018.as for the car loan, I'm stuck with it. my wife refuses to get a used 5yr old car that is in good conditions. she throws the safety and repairs arguments at me. the kicker is that i am a mechanic. lolthanks to all that replied. really do appreciate the advice.
