The appreciation or "value gained" over 8 years is only icing on the cake as apposed to the main course with your equities. 

If you can become a software engineer, then real estate ought to be a cake walk for ya. 

Cash flow is the most important in my opinion and any appreciation would just be icing on the cake.

You guys definitely take the cake on student loan write-offs!

I don't mind starting out solo, if it means I get to keep my cake and eat it too.

Parts wear out and end up in the landfill, particularly the batteries full of hazardous materials.Maybe they'll sell like hot cakes and the price will drop enough in 10 years to make it worth my while.

If you improve the property and raise the value, then that is icing on the cake.  

Bought a house, bought 2 more, bought another, had 3 renos going at once by January(I couldn't believe that's possible) sold those while acquiring another 6, had 6 renos going at once by March ( made 3 seem like a cake walk), wholesaled one, flipped the other 5, and bought another 7, including a sweet old bed and breakfast on 4 acres near the beach (That one is for fun and hopefully a good air bnb).
