If not for Coronavirus slowing things down I would have nothing bad to say.

My wife and I recently moved to Orlando to be closer to family but hasn't slowed us down one bit.

These areas tend to offer slightly more flexibility, and depending on the size of the property you’re looking for, you might find larger units than in Portland.Also, as Scott mentioned, increasing rents in Portland can be a slow process, especially with the 10% cap or 7% + CPI limits, whichever is lower.

I think the key is to do these during slow or at least stable times and not during major market shifting factors like the interest rates increasing rapidly.

You will then have to refinance with a commercial product or pay it off.

I know this is a somewhat controversial product but a reverse mortgage is an option for folks who want to remain in their home and age in place but need a source of cash flow.Hope this points you in the right direction.

The other disadvantage of storage rental is they are generally slow to fill up, we are financing a new Construction self storage, and the lease up is estimated at 4 years.  1 suggestion would be to buy 1 container, lease it, then buy the subsequent container.
