You could put a line in your lease about “the landlord understands the inconvenience of broken appliances and will attempt to repair them as quickly as is reasonably.”

The relationship is broken.

We are wanting to upgrade into a larger home and are trying to decide if renting our first home is feasible or not.

I should also mention that the driveway is a mix of extremely old broken up asphalt, dirt, gravel, and slabs.

Admittedly, if I owned a unit in a building that the other owners were upgrading things that I benefited from, without charging me for them, I would even more reluctant to sell.  

Although the house is in good shape, we would like to upgrade throughout so that it commands a much higher selling price. 

There is definitely a need for clean units that still have a level up upgrades that can be done after closing by the new buyer.

You can see how some would want to avoid that.Older buildings can also have problems like hidden electrical that has never been upgraded.

Taking into account the possibility of an equity gain from renovations and upgrades, keep the following in mind:Market Conditions: Depending on the state of the local market, changes such as bathroom and kitchen renovations may or may not have an influence on a condo's equity.

If I factor in additional $5,000 in upgrades it still hits a 30%+ CoC return....It certainly is not a grand slam, but for the extremely low barrier of entry, it seems like a solid base hit.
