I posted that my apartment in NYC was rented ( paperwork) Four days after she moved in  the ceiling fell because of roof work being done. the landlord has asked her to move out for an undetermined amount of time (2-6 weeks.) she is demanding her money back -  security deposit plus last month rent .

It is probably 60 to 80 years old and just fell apart.I like to be fair with my tenants and I am more inclined to refund them their money than not when there is a little damage to a rental unit.

I feel we are encouraging bad behavior and many of these tenants who fell behind are going to leave when the walls of protection come down around them but negotiate forgiven debt and may even walk out with some money.
