i would discount maybe like 30 dollars of rent hey  its christmas maybe they needed oven to cook for family gathering .

In my county a legal home must contain: a bathroom (incl. a sink, toilet, shower or tub), cooking facilities (incl. another sink), sleeping quarters and a closet.

I also  keep myself tuned most of the time to podcast with my smartphone connected to my headset attached to ears while cooking, driving, jogging or running, and most of my free hours.

If someone cooks a lot of meat (grease) or uses a lot of heavy spices they would be better off with venting to the outside.

Also, if this sliding glass door was off the kitchen, it may point to excessive moisture build up from cooking, especially if they weren't using the range hood fan.Make sure the unit has adequate ventilation and the range hood fan and bathroom fan both duct to the outside.
