This would seriously harm you if you were leveraged.Again if you really consider this (hyper-inflation and resulting complete breakdown of society) to be an eminent threat, you should be investing in some land to "bug-out" to and learning how to survive the collapse of civilization as we know it.As a rule, inflation makes the rich richer and the poor poorer and decimates the middle class.

Want a new kitchen, we move to a place with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.I don't see a dramtic rise in interest rates going forward as unemployment remains tough and deflation is just as big if not a bigger threat than inflation.

Has nothing to do with interest being earned or a service fee being retained.One aspect is just human nature, most people don't generally add to their work load, they avoid conflict, they avoid complicating matters, if there is no real threat of loss, no real expectation of the loan going bad or unpaid, it's very possible that hourly paid clerk will just make a note in the file to CYA themselves, play ignorant and file the matter, doing absolutely nothing.Loan officers, loans are tracked back to the responsible originator.
