A lot of plantings were put in when the house was new and now are over grown for the spot where they are and roots can be pushing against the foundation or causing water penetration.We will repair outside decks, porches, patios, etc, but usually don't build a new one of those.

You can build pier and beam closer to a protected tree than a slab because the impact to the root zone is not as significant.
