@Lisa H. why does paying "fair market value" matter?

I know people who currently have that, it started a generation ago and probably ends next generation, it's hard to maintain this more than a couple generations because the politics, religion and underlying values can't hold across hundreds of extended family members.The same goes for business/way of life.

Now, if for whatever reason this was a fair allocation, and the 5-yr property indeed lost 90% of its value while in our hands - then the impressive tax savings they boasted about would be valid as well. 

Ron, Thank you for the input. i like the car check thats something quick and easy to see as a indicator of how they maintain their lives/ belongings. 

There is a lot of grey area on this site, as there is on most sites, and in the interest of wanting to be fair to posters and not be ridiculously heavy handed, most mods will give posters the benefit of the doubt on the front end, maybe with removing a post and a warning or something similar.

You have to understand your rights and maintain control of the situation. 

I have a lot I have purchased in Cancun and am needing to submit plans for the construction of the home itself fairly soon and am like a fish out of water.

I read that the government (village in this case) takes ownership and pays fair market value to the owner.

You can fairly collect some form of compensation for being the managing member.
