In his book, The Varieties of Religious Experience, William James present the concept of Soul Sickness, as posited against what James calls Healthy Mindedness.

For those that know me, know my heart and soul are pure, but it is time to take advantage of what’s going on.

Any time I hear someone talk like that I think about how they must have sold their soul, but at least they now have a barn silo out back filled with cash to go swimming like Scrooge McDuck.
