The last thing you want to have to deal with is spending money to improve the overall value of the property, and then minor aesthetics and details are missed, which add up; ex. painted over light switch plate covers, or stairwell railings which have been painted over several times and never correctly sanded down, etc - gives it a look like it hasn't been done correctly and can decrease the value of the place.

As the father of two beautiful Millennial daughters, I can relate. 

I go by aesthetics of the unit. 

However the beauty of RE is it normally keeps up or surpasses inflation.

I have a beautiful 1 year old daughter.  

The villages are one such story, where some scenic beauty, warm weather,low cost of living and a buffer from the hurricane blasted coasts will cause lots of retired folks to choose it. 

.  :-)  Unfortunately no cool moulding or door knobs or anything of much interest... just the original fir floorboards (*beautiful* tight grain) we'll do something neat with.Been working on this project for 20 months or so - it's an urban subdivision and new home construction.  

Visiting a lot of properties also helped me get "desensitized" to the beauty of some of the properties I have seen so that I could focus mainly on the numbers and the property features.Analyze some potential rental properties even though you do not intent to purchase them.

Hi Amanda, Arrowhead is beautiful, but think about what your tenants would use a dock for to see if it would warrant the cost.
