Then I sanded and stained it dark brown. ( I would go lighter next time. ) Next, I painted a 16 inch grid over the entire floor with 1/2 inch stripes of black paint to camoflage the seams and make it look like tile

If it's not oil based, then the water stains you are trying to cover will bleed through still.I wouldn't worry about the wavy ceiling.

Typical kitchen for us (lower end, $100K retail resale) is about:- $3000 for cabinets (42" cherry stained)- $500 for countertops (laminate)- $1.00 per square foot for vinyl flooring or $5.25 per square foot for solid oak flooring- $1400 for stainless fridge, range, microwave, dishwasherSo, ultimately it will be between $5-6K for a new kitchen, more or less depending on size.

Wood cabinets can also be refinished by stripping off the top coat (varnish, polyurethane, etc.) and either sanded down to bare wood, bleached, or just re-topped with a clear finish or a stain and finish like Minwax Polyshades.

They make a special primer that encapsulates the smoke.Make sure you are just dealing with smoke and not meth stains on the wall or other drugs.Having to remediate those things can make it a loser.You will need to have the ducts cleaned and service the mechanicals.
