What you have described in your post is a Hub and spoke structure.

@Sofia Sharkey I know you specifically said that you're looking for somewhere warmer, but my little town is a major tourist hub year round (right near Yosemite National Park and a ski resort).

Cost of Living ranks 4/50 in NC (expensive for NC), and top 5% most expensive cities in the world.Charlotte is a major commerce hub and the second-largest banking center in the country.

Not only does Ohio in general offer great quality of life, it's likely to be a thriving 5G hub in the near future.

Bakersfield has been the next chosen hub of transportation in CA because of its proximity to the entire CA population, and there are a few more reasons to give it a shot.  

I planned that building the business would be part of my retirement and become the hub that would link spokes in the wheel to other streams like getting back into REI.

Louis or Indy (or another reasonable driving distance hub nearby).

Im OK with this one not producing much for the other benefits, if it saves me 2k monthly on private school, it's a win IMO.For out of state, I'm not sure exactly where, Chattanooga TN looks decent due to the expansion of Google fiber and tech hubs growing there, Kansas city looks decent and I've seen some turnkey B props for under 70k that look good.
