One of them told me they only have to provide 15 days notice, which doesn’t help if I am on vacation for a few weeks or haven’t checked my PO Box in a few weeks.

A well written management contract should clearly spell out what is expected of both the PMC and the owner, to PROTECT both and avoid misunderstandings.

The background check is supposed to identify the amount of risk, then you determine whether you can mitigate that risk or not.
