Russell - I think this is a valid strategy.If you send a postcard, everyone including the mailman can read it but if generic and not obvious as to targeting probate, I say no harm, no foul.You could, of course, still mail to a PR at their listed address.

But back to the topic- how is the homeowner harmed?

No harm in that I certainly do not claim to be all knowing and I learn new things all the time. 

It's also per se defamation, which means they don't have the burden to prove harm. 

However, if the information isn't right or misleading, it could make more harm than good.I'm not sure whether it's the tax advisor who got it wrong or whether you misinterpreted what he/she said.

There is a lot to learn in this business and a few suggestions on a thread such as this is going to do you more harm than good.

There is no reason to expose your own property to harmful elements that are avoidable.
