It's worth about $350,000 and no liens.I was thinking about making it a midterm rental or a short-term rental but it would require quite a bit of work and would require getting a home equity loan.Also considering selling and buying a turnkey str.I do plan on leaving the country and I'm not sure where I'll end up.Would love to hear the pros and cons from all you professionals.

"Value add multifamily" is a cute term, but it will be an absolute bear of a project that will evaporate cash if you don't know what you are doing...and perhaps even if you do know what you are doing.

I've also seen it where legal counsel has had each of the spouses form their own single member LLC and those LLCs purchase the new property as tenants in common.Food for thought - You'll almost always get a better interest rate and terms buying as yourselves.

It ultimately boils down to what you can tolerate in the short and long term if you choose to hold onto the property.However, if you do end up selling the property, a 1031 exchange will allow you to defer all of the tax from any gain and the recapture of depreciation on the property. 6 years of depreciation will not be huge.
