I don't know about your state but mine (TN) has a lookup tool that will show you the agent's original license date, the brokerage incorporation date, etc. 

I know that's vague but it's hard to be more specific on questions like this. 

i wouldn't tell you where you should move since i don't know you.also, a lender would be in the best position to advise whether you qualify for a specific loan. 

I love how they have the same apartment renting for $890 and $1,800.

After you find a great realtor, I do recommend getting pre-approved asap so you can be qualified for financing and know exactly how much you can afford for a property.
