I currently remotely manage an STR (although it's only a few hours away) using a combination of Evolve Vacation Rental network and technology such as Nexia/Schlage digital door locks and other automation hacks for guest communication. 

I must admit that as technology has evolved over the last couple decades I've become skeptical of the value agents bring to the process.

Is it worth installing smarter technology in each individual unit? 

Im going into my last semester for an associates degree in Security Technology.

I don’t know if I would have had to confidence to forge ahead as we have without the insights and advice available on this forum.

There were maybe a dozen team members at the time and very little if any technology or efficiency. 

It will continue to grow, while technology is able to provide great investing opportunities with fewer location barriers (AKA Roofstock).

The past year I have also diversified and have bought my 4 most recent properties in Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge as STR. 

I've often think of this too, as the RE industry SLOWLY moves into modern technology the automated data is sure to have faults.

Second, it appears online technology is your back ground so build off what you know.
