Your insurance company will probably seek damages from whoever they can rightly go after.Going forward, do not rent to smokers, they are not a protected class.

As far os guests hard on the home, I recommend screening for smokers and not allowing pets.

I had a vacant  unit that I was so desperate to rent out to anyone hat i literally had my property manager heading over to show it to a woman that had TWO Pit Bulls, Who was having "a hard time finding a place" that occasionally smoked (I don't have smokers in any of my rentals) and was on disability.

Interestingly I could have already had a tenant, and have actually had a LOT of inquiries, but in my ads I clearly state....no pets....no smokers of any kind.....no evictions and no BK's.....and unless you're on Section 8 or Eden your gross monthly income needs to be at least 3x the monthly rent...Still get a ton of inquiries.....and then I ask them when I talk to them by phone and literally 85 to 90% end up confessing they either have pets, etc......
