Not to scare you but just be prepared to address any eventuality.

I might go back to Canada eventually or move to another country in 10, 20 yrs… Who knows!

I don't particularly want to sell my share of this property as it has appreciated quite a bit since we've initially invested and I'm hoping I can eventually get him moved out to turn it into a full-time rental property.

There was one instance discussed in the forums with a syndicator called Norada (you can search the forums for that name) where they not only stopped paying dividends, but also converted everyone’s capital to an equity position - which is code for “We don’t plan to give your money back unless we can survive to eventually sell the building.”  

Plan to eventually cash out refinance with conventional loan in 12 months, but looking to get out of my hard money situation to save on holding costs.

Add on top of that any maintenance issues that pop up (and they will eventually).

It is becoming extremely unsightly as they continue to build and will eventually bring tourism/desirability down (in my opinion).
