Hello Nate,Well, in Scotland, lodges and log cabins are extremely popular destinations for tourists, and apparently (although I'm still researching this) the UK domestic tourism industry is predicted to grow by 3% over this coming year due to the fact many nationals are not leaving the country for security and monetary reasons - fortunately, in Scotland, regardless of the weather, people are always renting log cabins and lodges. 

I've actually decided against it unless I buy ocean front rentals for tourism.

That said in some cities with lots of tourism and vacation rentals this is starting to turn and even mortgage lenders are starting to give out loan packages that have special vacation rental approval.

The law has had a huge impact economically, $100 million lost in just sports related tourism.

There are many new constructions going up in this expanding tourism/retirement area-- Gross rent yields on retail properties (at list price) seem to hover around 5-12%-- The area is seasonal due to the tourism.

A dozen major industries, not just tourism.

If its about location for you, you will need to suck up some of your profit for location, but if profit is your main driving factor, then you should really explore STR and look at what you can really make with our booming tourism industry.  

Because of this, they're creating a resort vacation community just outside the city but well within the tourism hot spot.

Along with the tourism, jobs, and the beaches I already mentioned, Sarasota has great long term appreciation potential.
