Los Angeles market for house hacking.Is it generally better to buy a duplex for house hacking in a better area, for example, Silver Lake, but pay a bigger down payment(20%-25%) for a move in ready home or buy a fixer upper duplex in West Adams and pay minimum downpayment 3.5-5% and spend the rest on renovation to gain forced appreciation.

My STR is a lake house so I have a 2 page liability waiver that I have them sign if they plan to use firepit, dock, or canoe/kayak.

Urban STRs were hit harder due to the heavier restrictions in larger cities.Regarding the rural vs urban, I believe in beaches, lakes and mountains for any STRs I look at.

The Lake Tahoe area is popular for STR and is highly competitive yet some people do make it work.

@Kurt Lehecka - Not sure what your budget is but I like the bird street area (below Lovers Ln and west of Inwood Rd) and Old Lake Highlands.

If you are near a major course and get golfers, I can see this as a major addition.If you are on a lake or in the mountains, maybe not so much.
