The building has some deferred maintenance that I have been dealing with.

at 26 - you could build a portfolio just by house hacking every 1-2 years for the next 5-10 years.

The type of information needed depends on if the building is being constructed in the future or if the building already exists.

The other watchout is if you lose your job you are required to pay the money back quickly, like 30-90 days with most 401K's or the loan gets converted to a withdrawal that comes with tax implications and penalties.

But you will never see the appreciation that truly builds wealth, because those low-barrier-to-entry properties will stay flat on the metric that matters: appreciation. 

But We plan to build a deck on the land to start and then make it an easy place to camp on the land.

Eventually they will build out a system or understand the value of a good PM company and what to ask, look for and keep an eye on.
