Welcome to BiggerPockets Laura Hafer! I'm loving the abundance of Houstonians on this site. There is a lot to learn and BP definitely has a wealth of information.

I would say to go ahead and try getting your real estate license. If it is something that you truly have a desire for then it will help you to find the deals you want. Also, when it comes time to find tenants or a buyer for your renovated homes, it will save you money as you wont have to pay someone else to do it for you. You definitely don't need a real estate license to start investing (I know a lot of investors that are not agents), but it sounds like it is what you want to do so I'd go for it.

Best of luck and I hope to see you around!

Hi Thomas Hendrix. Welcome to BiggerPockets! Glad to see some more investors in the Houston area. It is definitely a great time to start investing and Houston is a hot market for it as well. Hope to see you around. With the help you can get from the BP family I'm sure you can meet your goal of making this a full time endeavor.

I agree with most of the post on here. If you do decide to go with a mentor/coach then I would choose one that knows the local market. There are many mentors that have marketed themselves well and cover the entire nation, but the truth is, although they may have a lot of experience, they may not be an expert in your area.

With that said, there are many investment clubs in Houston and online resources that can provide you with a lot of helpful information. BP for example. Post any questions you have and people are willing to give their two cents for free. The most important thing is to always do your own research and due diligence.

Matt Skillern Glad to see you are looking into multiple streams of income. Rentals are a great way to provide that extra cash flow. You have taken the rights steps by joining BP and looking into resources such as lifestyles. There are other great organizations in the Houston area that you could look into as well. Some of these places even have mentoring programs. The more you educate yourself, the better your investments will turn out.

Hi Kamie. Welcome to BP. Glad you are taking action and focusing on your goals. RICH club is a great resource as well. There are a few investment clubs in the Houston area. Joining any of them will definitely be helpful. My company is actually a vendor at RICH and you can usually find me at their meetings. So if you do decide to join RICH we will probably run into each other. It would be great to talk to you and share any advice I could provide.
