Hi everyone, my name is Sinan, I was born and raised in Morocco and have lived in San Francisco for the past 6 years. I'am now 28 and work as a Software Engineer and am really interested in having alternative sources of income and building wealth. After discovering BiggerPockets, I have listened to many podcasts and think they are really useful! They helped me understand better how to determine if a house is a good deal or not.

I made it my goal for 2017 to buy a rental property. My wife owns a rental property down in LA where her family lives and suggested I look there as well. Her family would be able to help me out for minor maintenance / repairs, so I would not have to hire a PM. I'm primarily focusing on duplexes in  Silver lake and Highland Park neighborhoods. San Francisco is too expensive for me and I don't think the return on investment is as good. I have a friend who advised me to invest in Houston, but for a first deal I think I would rather invest in California, where I live.

So far I've made two offers this year. The first one was not high enough and the second one is now pending as I'm negotiating with the tenants to leave the units so I can remodel them and rent them closer to the current market price.
