Bill Gulley Thank you, that is precisely why I plan on taking some courses. I know real world education is better than anything else, but if I can ALSO get a foundation of knowledge in the basics, for free, there isn't much downside.

I think some people look at it too critically by saying "You'll waste time in class when you could be reading books/forums/blogs and working with real investors." I say, why not do both?

I'm liking the sound of this course: "Commercial Real Estate Finance." Definitely need to increase my practical knowledge of the math side of things. Seems like that is the quickest way to make a complicated topic VERY simple.

If you can't reach them to talk, just go buy a few lids for them.. problem solved.

This goes along with an idea one investor shared where he pays tenants $400 to move out instead of spending more on evicting them. Sometimes a small investment can save the headaches!

My wife recently just landed a job at the university that we both graduated from. One of the perks is that we both get to enroll in a certain amount of courses each year for free.

The college of business offers quite a few real estate courses. I could just take a couple random classes (online if I want) including Real Estate Principles and Practices and Income Property Appraisal, etc. Have any of you gone through a real estate curriculum, and if so, do I really have anything to lose?

Yeah, college football fans are tough to please sometimes! I look at it this way.. If Mack Brown and Kirk Ferentz both think this guy is good enough to be an O coordinator at a good Div. I school, he is. Simple as that.

College football coaches aren't carried to success too often by ONE good player, so I have hope that he will find success at Iowa as well. Either way, excited to see what happens!

Iowa Hawkeyes all the way! Very excited to see what new O&D Coordinators bring to the table, especially Greg Davis, formerly the Offensive coordinator for the longhorns..

Bryan Hancock, did you enjoy Davis during his tenure? Definitely seems like he took a couple elite quarterbacks as far as he could. I'm stoked.

Congrats Bigger Pockets and Joshua Dorkin. More importantly, congrats to all of the users like me. BP has been an amazing resource and I will, without a doubt, be able to credit a portion of my future success to practical knowledge taken from this site. In fact, in 4 days I am meeting a successful local investor I met through BP. So excited to see what new knowledge and opportunity can come from these interactions!

Still haven't finished my private pilot.. definitely a goal for the future.

My day job is selling private jet charters for a great company out of Omaha! Can't wait until I'm the one buying these flights some day, though ;)

If you haven't been to Brandon Turner's blog yet and you are trying to get started in REI, get there! Check out this link below to watch him go through a whole process and explain the numbers, considerations, etc.

What other blogs are you guys checking out lately?

Great point J Scott. For me, the biggest takeaway from my education was critical thinking. From the outside, real estate is complex and ever-changing. By using critical thinking, it seems like you can come up with innovative strategies to battle through any market and continue learning all the way.

Now if I'd just take the plunge, I'd learn all these lessons I KNOW I'll learn. Can't wait.
