Hey @Josh Carpenter. I am with @John Underwood on getting them swapped out.

There are very few smart thermostats that work with line voltage. And only 1 I can find that is WiFi that you can control from an app.

The Mysa. https://getmysa.com/

It will probably do what you need for the time being.

Thanks @Michael Baum! I saw that one, probably the one I'm go with, until I've got the budget for a new system.

From what I can see, all units are the same, but I haven't done an exhaustive search. It's not in the budget anyway. It seems to be a very tightly managed building, which is typical for Ocean City, Maryland from what I have heard from my real estate agent and lender. This is considered one of the best managed buildings (mid-rise, 55 units). I think part of that is they keep the facility in good shape in part by restricting what people can do to it.

I can see getting dinged for a crappy looking thermostat, but as long as the place gets warm when you turn it up, I think they'll be happy. The baseboards themselves are well cared for, very unobstrusive.

Cooling is handled by newer in-wall AC units at the front (bedroom) and back (living room).

Once you have a modern system I highly recommend the Honeywell 9000 series wifi thermostats!

Thanks for the reply John! Yes, it is the 240V type. I'm not opposed to a rip and replace on this system someday, but I'm in a scramble to get things ready for this season and just need to update what's in place. Also pretty sure that the condo association would no permit it (and it's working great).

Honeywell does have some updated models that will work, but I don't see any that are smart/Wi-Fi. The only Wi-Fi ones are brands I don't recognize. Hence, the question. 🤔

Hey everyone! I have two really grungy (though fully functional) baseboard heat-only thermostats, circa 1980. Similar to my previous question on Wi-Fi locks, what are people's experiences with modern thermostats? I've learned that it's a specialized type of line voltage thermostat, not compatible with regular low voltage Furnace/AC systems. I want it to be easy to use for guests, and allow me to set it remotely when the unit is vacant. Nest seems like a good bet, but it's not clear if they are compatible...? Thanks in advance!

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions! From reading the description for the Schlage Encode, it was a little unclear if it requires some kind of hub... Will it work with just my Wi-Fi? Does it require Alexa or Google Home? And if so, what are people's experiences with reliability in an STR, Google vs Alexa? I use both at home, and generally find Alexa to be a little better, but maybe in the context of an STR there's something I don't know.

Thanks again!

... I also connect it with RemoteLock...

Thanks for this tip @Dewayne Perry! How much does RemoteLock cost? The website makes you contact sales, so I'm guessing it might not be feasible for a single unit.

Wow, thank you so much everyone! I'll put the Schlage Encode at the top of my list, and take a look at the others mentioned as well.

Hi all, I'm setting up my first STR, a beach condo in Ocean City, MD. I live 3-4 hours away, so I'm putting together some local resources. But I also want to be able to change door codes remotely, and unlock remotely if someone is having trouble. Having a dedicated code for cleaners or other service personnel would be great too. I see a lot of locks on the market, but would like to know if anyone has any recommendations or brands to avoid.

Thanks in advance, I'm really grateful for all the wisdom-sharing in this forum!

Josh

We recently did away with this rule as our new pricing software allows people to book for 2 nights but increases the amount by the cost of another night.  Essentially they pay for 3 and get 2, and the 3rd night remains bookable in case someone else wants to reserve it.

Cool tip Andrew! Can you please tell us what software you use for this?

We use Streamlime VRS and their pricing software RevMax.  Not sure if you can unbundle the two or if you can get those features through another provider or not.

Thanks Andrew! Looks like Streamline is something to consider further down the road, but RevMax is available standalone... I will look into that, starts at $20/month!
