The struggle of wanting to do it all on my own
I have been totally interested in but only passively dedicated to real estate investing for years now. Nothing scares me but I have been turned off for two major reasons. Low capital, and super high price point. For 10 years now I have lived through the lows and the highs that the Southern California market brings. I have gone from 10$ an hour to owning my own business and making a healthy income.
If my income is now at a healthy level that supports my family... then why invest? What do I want my life to look like?
Freedom. I want to be free from the daily grind oh so bad. By daily grind I don't mean abandoning my responsibilities as a husband and father, but there are millions of people who share the same streets and roads as I do and the backup exhausts me. So many people are going the same direction, work a job to pay for a car, work more hours to pay for a house, work more hours to pay for a vacation......
There has to be a better way.
It is wild to say but I used to believe (and still struggle with it sometimes) that I have to work hard, to hurt, to suffer and to struggle for a living otherwise I am not working. The ironic thing is I would tell my colleagues and employees to "work smart, not hard"
Take your own advice bud...
There are many avenues available for earning a living that may not have been available years ago when my dad was in his prime. With a little imagination, alot of courage, proper instruction and dedication I believe I can create my income and not follow the normal accepted routine. I can do something that gives me the freedom that I am looking for.
Right now I am listening to podcast 200 from the guys, Joshua Dorkin and Brandon Turner and am getting so many good ideas and insight much of what I have already accomplished.
Strong desire... check
Personal finances in order... check
So whats holding me back? Up until this point I have wanted to do everything on my own. I now know that I don't have to do everything on my own. I don't even have to ask for help, help is there offering if I look in the right areas.
To close things up for today, here is where I am. My goals are to buy and close out a deal before my milestone birthday in September (the big three oh). Buy a fixer, renovate utilizing my construction company and my investing partners construction company. Turn and sell the home and then evaluate my position. I ultimately want to get into buy and hold investing however am looking to grow capital and see buy and renovate as the quickest way to build capital.
Bingo.... lets get to it.
