Boise, Idaho: Home to Abundant College Life

College is a big focus in Boise with six colleges and universities and five two-year schools.  Here is some brief information on Boise's higher education!

                                                           Colleges & Universities

Boise State University:

The big BLUE & ORANGE, known for its blue smurf turf and great football team, is a staple in Boise!  BSU has great community support and has grown to Idaho’s largest university.

With over 200 areas of study, it is no surprise that as of Fall 2016, 23,886 students were enrolled at Boise State University.

BSU is one if Boise’s largest employers with 3,005 faculty and staff!

Student Life:

-76% of students are from in-state
-24% of students are from out-of-state
-2,700 students live on-campus

Northwest Nazarene University:

Northwest Nazarene University, located in Nampa on 90 acres, is a nonprofit Christian university that is thriving.

NNU became a four-year college in 1937 and quickly added the master’s programs in the mid-sixties.  Since then, NNU has grown to serve approximately 1,900 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 10,000 continuing education students each year.  NNU employs 100 full-time faculty and 305 employees.

College of Idaho:

The College of Idaho was founded in 1891 in Caldwell, only 30 minutes from Downtown Boise.  C of I is a small, but mighty school with an enrollment of 1,070 students and 10% of their population representing 46 countries!

University of Idaho – Boise Campus:

The University of Idaho is located in Moscow, Idaho, but has planted a campus in Boise with over 120 faculty and staff members.

At UI Boise, students can enroll in any of their nine colleges:

-Art and Architecture
-Education
-Engineering
-Natural Resources
-Law
-Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences
-Medical Education
-Interdisciplinary Degrees

The University of Idaho is known as a leading national research university. 
At UI Boise, researchers and college staff work on a variety of topics such as:

-Natural resources and the environment
-Community sustainability and design
-Family economics
-Childhood education
-Nutrition education
-Pesticide safety and management
-Food safety and processing
-Water resources engineering

Idaho State University – Meridian:

Idaho State Universities main campus is located in Pocatello, Idaho.  In the early 1970’s, ISU saw the importance of creating a presence in the Treasure Valley and began offering clinical pharmacy rotations at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Since then, ISU Meridian has quickly grown and created the ISU – Meridian Health Science Center in 2009.  This satellite location has an enrollment of over 1,000 students and offers 30+ undergraduate and graduate programs.

ISU-Meridian was named one of the nation’s top 10 branch campuses by thebestcolleges.org.

Concordia University School of Law:

For years, Boise was one of the only state capitals without a law school.  In 2007, Concordia University, based in Portland, Oregon saw the potential of starting a satellite school in Boise and began working towards that goal.  In 2012 the first class of students enrolled in Boise’s Concordia University School of Law.

Concordia University School of Law in Boise has approximately 100 students.

College of Western Idaho:

In 2007, when the College of Western Idaho was founded, Boise was the last metro area without a community college.  Since CWI welcomed their first students in 2009, they have become the fastest growing community college in the United States.

Student Life:
-Over 24,000 students are enrolled
-84% of students are part-time
-16% of students are full-time

-CWI has 13 (yes, 13) satellite locations in the area.
