Just Call Me Luke Skywalker, Because There’s a New Hope

Don’t let the title of this post fool you, where’re haven’t conquered Mt. Real Estate quite yet, but as Tom Kroll says, it’s about progress not perfection.

Just a few days after my last entry I received my yellow letter in the mail (there’s a hot tip to all newbies out there: make sure that when you submit a direct mail list to put your name down on there as well so that the vender did their job. It also becomes really important when you’re farming an area close to home, because then you know that you should be expecting calls soon.) Not long after that letter showed up on my doorstep, I received four whole calls! I’m not being facetious. This is by far my best response rate to date in this campaign.

The problem I’m running into now is that none of my prospects left voicemails. I work full time and I have two kids so I’m not always available to take a call. Every conversation I’ve gotten so far was the product of a callback. That’s good, because I need practice talking to people, but it’s not ideal.

The big thing I wanted to get across in this post is that as long as the phone is ringing, a feel like I am getting closer to my goals. That’s not wishful thinking. That’s not Pollyanna. That’s math! Someone out there is going to say yes. Coming from a sales background, you see how every no is one step closer to the yes. I know that even the biggest jabroni on the planet will trip over his tie and land on a huge sale, given enough chances to take a swing.

Is it sustainable? That’s a different story. But for as long as I got the phone ringing with new leads, I feel like I have hope.

Until next time…
