Residential Assisted Living -- A Crazy Huge Trend Worth Your Time?
So I have been wanting to blog on BiggerPockets for a long time now, but one simple excuse comes up time and time again. In fact, that's what the excuse is -- TIME.
Each time the thought arises, I tell myself, "I'll get to that later."
The problem is I haven't even put it on my To Do list or my calendar.
But today, even though I have a GooglePlex of things I am working on to accomplish, I decided to make the first step and just do it.
- I don't have to write a book. (No one would want to read all that anyway.)
- I don't have to be perfect. (It's impossible, actually.)
- I don't have to be THE expert. (There's always someone with more experience, intelligence, and knowledge.)
Strange thing is, this idea of taking the first step, no matter the outcome, is one of the lessons that you will see all over BiggerPockets' blogs and forum posts.
And this is a good thing...
- Whether it's your first project or your fiftieth, we often need that little nudge to take action...
- We need to know we aren't crazy...
- We need to hear that we aren't going to flop on our faces and fail...
- And even if we do, we need to realize that we can take action again, this time with more experience.
So, now I get to the topic at hand -- Residential Assisted Living.
You might have heard that there is a crazy trend that for the next 20 or so years there will be 10,000 Baby Boomers turning 65 EVERY DAY. At the peak, it will actually be 17,000 a day. Right now 4,000 people in the United States a day are turning 85.
And if you think this is only an American phenomenon, think again. The trends are even bigger in some European and Asian countries. In Japan, the elderly population is already around 40%.
So the opportunity is huge no matter where you are.
This is a First World trend that you really should consider if you are an investor.
The beauty of Residential Assisted Living is that a single investor can get into the game right now:
- If you flip houses or buy and hold, you already have a list of skills and knowledge that will be directly applicable to remodeling or building a residential zoned single family home to be used for this purpose.
- You can utilize conventional financing options.
- You can massively accelerate your journey along the road to financial freedom.
So that's it for today. I took a tiny step and hopefully provided some value for those of you looking for a way to maximize your growth and return on investment.
Next time I'll discuss...
...what assisted living really is...
...different ways investors can participate...
...and the rules and regulations you need to consider when choosing to take on this insanely huge opportunity.
I'm happy to answer questions in the comments, or you can send me a colleague request and start a dialogue.
