Keeping Quiet When It's Really Good

The repairs are going into our properties, raising their value.  The loan balances are getting lower.  We are going on a two week vacation this week.  Two weeks of no income for my wife, who is self employed, and yet, due to our rental income, this vacation and our finances are great.  We won't sweat it this year.  School supplies?  No problem.  Clothes for kids?  No problem.

Before I invested in real estate, August was an uncomfortable month.  This was the month we had to do without a huge part of our income, and we had kids who needed clothes, supplies, etc, and we barely scraped by.

Now with rent paid each month, that is not an issue.  I want to tell someone!  But how do I do it without bragging?  My closest friends have not bought into the real estate idea.  I want to show them this success without shoving it in their face.  I'm holding out for when they ask, 'how is real estate going?'.

I know few people will read this blog, but it helps me to document it somewhere.

  1. David,

Your not alone, your moving in the right direction. I have rental properties and self manage them also. There's always questions from family members and close friends questioning, mostly negatively. Asking questions from your going to fail or it cost too much money to purchase property, you shouldn't do it. I look at it, in my perspective, its plain scarcity!. they're to afraid, because they don't know. its easy to talk and judge, instead of putting in the hard work. Your in a great position to potentially purchase more with the improvements to your property, when you want to take that position. Thanks for the blog, very informative and inspiring, great job

    1. Thanks Chad and Ryan.  Very encouraging responses.  Great advice.

  2. That's a good question, and a relative one also. I feel like I'm doing pretty good in life right now also, but compared to whom/what? I usually try to talk to my brother about real estate or whatever I'm doing to set my family up financially, and he just shrugs. He's doing well too (as an employee). I really want him (Or my other friends I talk too) to understand the power of Real Estate an as investment. So far, no takers LOL
