Fun as an IT person

My regular day job is in IT -- actually I'm a software consultant, however I do deal with a variety of issues. Sometimes stories come up that I have to share. Today was one of those times.

I setup a process for a customer to run at 11:30 pm every night and send a log file to the printer at 11;55 pm. My customer was wondering why their print job was not printing at night as it was supposed to. So I go onsite this morning to meet with the customer and the IT guy who was also onsite. We cannot figure out why the print job did not print -- Windows shows it does, other print jobs print, the test page prints, etc. So we're standing around the printer discussing the issue.

Then one of the office staff says, "Are you talking about this?" and pulls out the print job from the recycling pile. Seems as though she was grabbing it off the printer every morning before the customer got in and putting it in the recycling pile because she didn't know what it was. (And of course, not telling anyone she was doing that!)

As much as I love real estate, days like today take the cake!

  2. I am one of the nightmares you IT guys have, hehe so glad to hear someone was worse than me at something. I have actually called our IT guy before and said look its not broke, I just don't know how to make it work can you come help me?

  3. I've had various IT jobs in the last 13 years and I definitely got a chuckle out of this.

  4. I think the number of funny IT stories that I have would rival the number of crazy real estate stories.

  5. Love it... I'm in Technical Support for an IT Software Company. This is one I could have never troubleshot over the web, phone, or webex! Lol!

  6. I once took a call from an angry customer (job applicant) who was upset that our website wouldn't take her application. Through a few minutes of trouble shooting, it became apparent that her keyboard, was not plugged in. I never thought stuff like that actually happened...

  7. Also in IT, can't begin to count the "is it plugged in solutions".

  8. Hello Dawn, Thanks for sharing. I can totally relate having worked in IT for 20+ years!! It is amazing how many "technical" issues have non technical solutions. off to share this with co workers to lighten and brighten our day. Thanks, Jeff
