A Sample of my future

Last week, I went on vacation for a week and I realized something. Nothing changed. I was out for a week and I realized that when I came back everything was okay. To a veteran landlord they might be thinking "duh" and to a newbie they might thinking "I don't get it". The reason why this was critical for me was because I realized that systems are created to make sure that your operation does not live or die with you. The garbage was still picked up. The lawn was still mowed. If my tenants would have contacted me with a repair request, I would have received it through email, reviewed it, and I would have accepted it and notified my handy man so he can go fix it or I would have denied it and sent them the portion of the lease that states I will not be responsible for it. After setting all this up, I had an "aha" moment. None of the things i just mentioned include me physically being there. I can literally do all these things from anywhere in the world.

David Greene talks about long distance investing all the time and even though I read his book and have read plenty of people that share how they buy and hold from a distance, I was still skeptical. After leaving for a week and realizing that since I pretty much outsource everything, I am basically a glorified dispatcher. I get a request, I assess the request and make a decision on how to proceed. None of that requires me to actually be there.

This is not one of my longer post but I felt like I had to share. I understand it can be a bit scary to be physically disconnected from your investment but in the long run, it might be the best thing you can do. By doing this, you are forced to create systems that work with or without you. You learn to outsource everything which will allow you to scale your business faster and you have more free time to do the things you love you do like go to Cabo and play some Golf while everyone is working.
