Taking Action: Doers and Watchers

It’s a fact that at some point we will be forced to consider taking action for our lives, and more importantly, we will have to learn which side we choose to be on.

There are two kinds of people: the headstrong Doers and the patient Watchers. Both are bound by the same goal but use different methods to accomplish it.

So, how different are these two, exactly?

Doers

Doers rarely take a moment to pause before leaping into the fray.

Sure, it can seem like recklessness but it’s also far from that. Doers have a capability for observation but will soon begin asking themselves how they can help. They may participate regardless of permission and commit to whatever it is they just got themselves into.

The doers are the ideal entrepreneurs. Their greatest strength is being the first to take action without hesitation. However, this can also be their crack in the armor. They may often find themselves in a situation where they’ve bitten off more than they can chew.

Simply put, doers take action just by doing whatever is needed of them as long as it accomplishes the mission. There is a level of further observation that they may need, though.

Watchers

The watchers often delay their decision until a better one comes along; a practice otherwise known as procrastination.

That’s not to say that they don’t wish to take action. They simply bide their time until an opportunity presents itself. This is not necessarily a bad thing as this means the watchers still have important matters in mind.

The problem, however, is that this makes them seem like they’re constantly making excuses. As a watcher, you may feel like something always holds you back when you’re about to make a heavy decision.

As a watcher, you should not fear the dangers of tomorrow when you haven’t even gotten through today. And you should not be afraid of rejection or failure.

As inevitable as both of those are, they should not define you as a person. You are always open to try and try again as many times as possible.

So what kind of person are you when it comes to taking action? A Doer or a Watcher? Let us know in the comments below.
