Getting started in Wholesaling

So I really want to get started in investing and I previously had a mentor and he told me that wholesaling was the way to go. I let the fear get the best of me and I procrastinated for a very long time. Now that I feel like I'm ready I have noticed that on a lot of the forums on BP that people are saying that it's very difficult to be a successful wholesaler. So I guess what I'm asking is there a better way to get started? Or are the people that are saying how hard it is just people that haven't had much successs in that area?
