Abandoned Property and Finding the Owner in NJ

Hey All,

Spotted an abandoned property on the Jersey (NJ) shore and I was wondering the best way to find & contact the owner to scout a potential deal. It has a REMAX sign up but when I called and inquired about it, it seems as if it is now unlisted. Can't find it on REMAX website either.

What's the best way to go about contacting the owner? Direct Mail? How do I find the owner's address? Newbie here and looking for any wisdom anyone is willing to offer. Thanks in advance!!

- Nick

First thing to do is check the tax records to see where the owner may be living now. You can check this at njactb.org

If the same address is listed then you will have to do some extra digging. Try the tax records before you have to move further.

You can check property appraiser website for your county. When you out the address in you should get the address the property taxes are sent to, which should be different from the property address. Then send them a letter

Try the tax records. That will list the owner and their address of where the tax bill gets sent to just in case its different from the property address. Not sure if this is Ocean county where this home is but here is their link you can try. Other counties have the same thing.

If you have access to a realtor or the MLS they can search it to see what happened to it after it was listed. (Sold; etc.)

Good Luck
