Of all the places you lived, where would you move to right now

I have only ever lived in Wisconsin so I do not have a good idea as to how it compares to other places.  I know it always seems that the grass is greener in another state but I want to get some sort of consensus.

The south is only getting hotter.  Austin TX has seen the average number of 100+ days go from 14 to 24 in the last 30 years.  The north is getting warmer ... I have seen winters here get milder and milder.  I could go south, but Illinois has high taxes like California and there is an outflux of people from both states.

To me, the states in the middle seem appealing.  Like NC, SC, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Colorado, Utah, Nevada.

But I want to hear what you think.  Tell me a place that you have lived before and would be the one place you would live if you had nothing binding you to where you are now.

I'm finishing up The 4-hour Work Week, so this question was perfect timing for me. My wife and I have a goal of doing a mini retirement somewhere in the next 5 years. To answer the question, I lived in Crete, Greece for a year while I was in the Navy. I'd love to live there again, it's a beautiful place. So much to do and see on the island.

@Kevin Rea Ive only ever lived in pa, I lived in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and several small towns in central and south central pa. I have traveled some and thus far south central pa is where it’s at. My only issues are that it’s 40+ miles to any large stores other than Walmart and groceries. We’re close enough to state college, Pittsburgh, Cumberland, md to enjoy all the stuff that’s lacking in our small town without having all the detractors of the city to deal with on a daily basis.

I have only lived in Kokomo, Indiana and Searcy, Arkansas for college for 2 years. We purchased a home here in Kokomo back in 2018. The cost of living is great, but we've thought about moving to Arizona for better weather. Definitely later in life though. The same house we have here would be at least double the price.

@Kevin Rea I have lived in WI. I now live in NC. I would choose NC everyday of the week. Here’s why:

1. Booming economy? Check.

2. Great quality of life? Check.

3. Affordable (compared to CA and NY)? Check.

It's affordable. Farmer's Markets everywhere. It's just as beautiful as Hawaii. Everyone speaks English. Scuba Diving here is amazing. All other manner of Ocean Life (snorkeling, spearfishing, boating, etc).

I was born and raised in New Hampshire, there's definitely parts that can be beautiful espcially if you travel up north towards Canada. If I had my pick though I would live in Sydney Australia, hands down the most beautiful place on earth!

Dream places to live are Ireland and Germany from places I've visited. 

In the US, it would be TX so far. No state taxes, still relatively cheap market, landlord friendly, so I've heard, southern charm, nature out the wazoo. I'd love to live in CA, but the cost seems crazy compared to the Midwestern life I'm used to in Oklahoma.

So much Texas being mentioned here! Love it! I traveled the US for 3 years and have been to most of the major cities. I would move to Bend, OR for 1/2 of the year (summer) and back home to Houston in the winter.

I've lived in Ontario Canada, and Utah. I want to spend 6-12 months in a different city or town in the world throughout my retirement. I'm taking notes! Thanks for the suggestions folks. I highly recommend everyone visit the National/State parks in Utah and a road trip from Banff to Jasper and paddle board the FL keys.

I live in New Hampshire Currently and in the past to name a few Lake Tahoe, Breckenridge, Co, Philadelphia, PA and travel all over for work. My wife and I are planning to move to Reno, NV. We love the outdoors so you can't beat the proximity to the hiking and snowboarding of the Sierras and Lake Tahoe, no state income tax, low property tax, plus rapid job growth and population growth.
