Painting Kitchen Cabinets or Hire Someone To Do it

I have a question here. I'm wanting to know how much it would cost to re-paint old kitchen cabinets? I believe they have a clear coat on them that requires stripping down. I got a quote for $1450 but believe that is way too high. I'm looking to make some budget tweaks in a rental I have to help marketability in the Austin, TX area. Any suggestions or recommendations is much appreciated. Also, if anyone has any recommendations on contractors who could do the work in Austin would be great too. I am on a tight deadline to try and get the house ready for a future tenant.

Thanks!

Replied

I repainted the oak cabinets in my own residence without any prior experience and they came out better than I expected. I paint them white. I just sanded them real good, cleaned them up and rolled two coats of primer on and then two coats of white paint.
