Am I ripped off?
Hello team, wall mounted kitchen cabinets in my house are breaking down so the guy suggested replace the whole bank of cabinets. They are in following order left to right:
30X15(on fridge), 15X30(next to fridge), 18x20(over microwave, stove), 36x30 (next to mircowave), reusing previous crown molding thats about 10ft long.
These are stock plain oak unpainted cabinets from Home Depot. Gentleman charged me 650 to install and charging another 250 to paint. This is in Kansas City. I am feeling thats kind of very high, what do you all think. I tried to get answers from previous posts but could.
Thanks to all.
No I did not, was in rush but did not expect this high.
thanks for quick response
Does that price include the cost of the cabinets or just labor? Does it include removing the old or just putting up the new. It usually takes me about 30 minutes to hang a single cabinet. So the job you describe could reasonably be done in 2 to 3 hours. So at 30 bucks an hour I would say about 100 to 150 to hang the cabinets.
I think I charge 35 dollars per linear foot to install cabinets and another 20 dollars to finish cabinets per foot. Granted I work on the low end of the pay scale in WI but his prices seem high still. I think just 650 would be closer to what it should cost.
Yeah, it is to remove existing cabinets. I bought the cabinets at Home Depot and delivered them at the home. So its remove, hoist new, paint.
Thanks for all replies.
First off, check the price difference between finished and unfinished. I'd never buy and paint, not gonna look as good when it's done at the factory and way more hassle.
I pay $20/box for installing cabs. That's pretty cheap, but I get it done for that. $650 sounds like retail. Actually above that for a small kitchen. I'd def ask Depot what they'd charge and negotiate down from there.
