Finding a local guidance in Orlando, Fl

Hello Everyone, My name is Mark I live in the Orlando Fl area. I consider myself as a newbie because I still have not done a deal.

I have read many books on real estate. I have spent the past few months on this website listening to podcasts, reading blogs, and browsing the forums. This site has introduced me to a lot of real estate investing opportunities that I was not previously aware of.

My long term strategy is 1st find a mentor, buy and hold. Then put a team together. I am currently looking to learn every aspect of wholesaling so that I can build capital and benefit other investors along the way. I am looking forward to meeting people in the BP community and developing mutually beneficial relationships with other serious investors. This is my birthday gift to myself to find a mentor this month so that I will stay committed.

@Mark Hinton welcome to the Bigger Pockets community. If you aren't already aware out little city has 2 large REIA meeting groups. GoREIA and CFRI. Not sure if you will find a mentor there, however, there are lots of experienced investors to network with, as well as, educational classes and events.

@Mark Hinton

Locate and attend 3 different local REIA club meetings great place to meet people gather resources and info. Here you will meet wholesalers who provide deals and rehabbers (cash buyers). Find them through Google and meetup.com Here you can find people to work with.

Two Great reads, I bought both J. Scott The Book on Flipping Houses, The Book on Estimating ReHab Costs http://www.biggerpockets.com/flippingbook

@Mark Hinton Just a word to wise, I would not start off trying to wholesale. IT is a saturated market and every avenue of marketing is becoming played out. You are better off becoming a retail realtor IMHO

@Mark Hinton - I'm working the Orlando/Brevard area's - always happy to have a chat to discuss methodology etc. (we love to help other - especially newbies - it's a great way to build for the future).

Please feel free to get in touch via the message boards or number shown below - but please be aware of timezone differences between NZ and your part of the world - I'm not at my best at 3AM (lol). Usually a call after 5PM in FL is a good time here.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the BP community!! You may not realize it yet but you have made a very wise choice in joining this website. There is a lot of information on here for you to absorb. The information is in different formats like webinars, podcasts, forums, articles and books. If you are looking into fix & flipping houses I would recommend as did Paul Timmins the 2 books by John Scott "Flipping Houses" & "Estimating Rehab Costs" both very good books. If you are looking into rehabbing and renting or just buying rentals then you may want to add 2 books by Brandon Turner called "Managing Rental Properties" & "Rental Property Investing". But, the best advice I can give you is to join a local REIA meeting, network, or club. You can check the community tab on the site for networking events or google "meetup.com" If you have any questions I maybe can answer for you please connect with me. Also, if you decide to go the route of fix & flips I have some other recommendations I can give you that may be of help. Mark, I just want to wish you success in whichever path of REI you choose.

Have a Great Day & Happy Investing!!

@John Kent That's amazing to hear. I was just about to post about finding an REI group in Orlando. My properties are located in Orlando, but I've moved all over the country and the best advice/networking I've got done was at one of the local Seattle meetups (REAPS or Real Estate Association of Puget Sound). Looking forward to moving back to Orlando at the end of August and attending some of these.

@Mark Hinton I know it's been beat to death, but I can't stress how informative and helpful the networking events have been. I'd recommend volunteering as well. The reason is to not only give some assistance to the association, but also to get your name out there within the group. Unless you are a pro at working a room, volunteering could really help expedite the process of meeting everyone.
