Break out of your shell

So i just picked up a few new books. "How to make friends and influence people." and " Think and grow rich". I know there are a few categories on here wehre people name good books, but i want something a little different. Books that helped you break out of your shell or helped you learn to deal with people.

I'm kind of a straight shooter (aka blunt) and don't easily understand emotional people sometimes. So is there something that really just CHANGED your outloook if you were similar?

I'm a bit blunt myself but when in situations where tact is very important (ie: discussions with an emotional wife) I try to put myself in the other person's shoes and look at the situation from their perspective.

It has helped me immensely to become a more effective communicator and work out win-win outcomes.

Two come to mind...

One is Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. One of the habits is to put yourself in the other persons shoes.

The other book is The Secrets of Power Negotiating by Roger Dawson... this book was a game changer for me.

Good Luck!

I read the 7 habits of highly effective people and agree with Peter, this is a great book. I would like to add to more that I fell are eye openers on dealing with others, " The Speed of Trust", and "Serving Two Masters? Reflections on God and Profit".
