Why Do You Invest in Texas? Specifically in McAllen or Houston?

BiggerPockets! I work at BP and I'm working on building a landing page for Texas and the cities of McAllen and Houston. Would anyone be willing to share why you choose to invest in the city or the state in general? What makes it so wonderful?

    Hi Lauren, I lived in McAllen for 30 years and now living in Houston for the last 6 years. Lot's of opportunities! McAllen is the next San Antonio, lots of potential. Houston has major venues, baseball, basketball, and football teams and oil and gas!

    Hi @Luis Chug,

    Also being new to investing in Houston, I am looking for a quality real estate agent that specializes in investment properties and would greatly appreciate insights to how you identified your agent.

    I am new to Texas investing. We have four doors currently in CA, HI, and OR, but we are looking to move everything to TX. The cost of entry is so appealing and I think that cash flow is pretty promising in the areas that I am looking into. We are less interested in the large urban areas and have our eyes set one smaller suburban cities. We will be putting in offers on SFH, and multifamily homes in the next month. I am hoping to buy 3-4 doors just to get started. I can live with the weather, the taxes, and definitely the political environment which we are fleeing. This thread helps a lot. Thank you for the discussion.

    The Summers! Weather is a perfect 99 degrees!!

    Most of the posts are accurate about prices, land, schools, jobs.  Houston area is even more affordable than DFW and Austin overall, but prices are coming up steadily. We have a home nears Braes Baylor, and even with the flood risks, land alone is worth about 250k, for a 9000 ft. lot

    @Lauren Hogan

    My first OOS rental is 30 minutes north of Houston. The two main reasons I looked in TX are:

    Job growth - the company Im working for here in CA acquired assets in Houston and now have job openings there.

    Business friendly.

    When looking at markets OOS you always want to check jobs... are there companies investing in the area? Is there a diverse job base? If these both are met then I'd look more into the market.

    Very excited to see the landing page. Is there a link to an existing page for a different market?

    I love Texas. Invest quite heavily in DFW in industrial properties. Even if there is a US recession, that will only cause more people and jobs to re-locate from high tax states down to the south. Texas still has plenty of land, huge airports, and a minimally intrusive government which feeds growth. Prospects for Houston/RGV are strong for next 5 years.

     I like Houston for personal reasons, the beach is nice, the people are great and the product seems to be fairly priced.

    5th ward is it same as greater 5th ward near downtown? Thanks
