New Investor Alaska/Nebraksa
Big area of coverage? Let me explain.....
My name is Dustin and I am currently on Air Force active duty stationed in Alaska and have orders to Nebraska (leaving in May). Have been reading throughout the forums and about half way through the Beginners Guide and figured I should set up an account and introduce myself.
I was introduced to wholesaling through a REI Club in Florida and had my very first deal under my belt within 2 weeks with a payout of $10K!!!!.....but the needs of the Air Force sent me to Afghanistan and long story short....I wasnt educated enough on how to do this and ended up losing out on the deal. Was literally walking down the terminal and on the plane trying to get everything completed before I was asked to turn off my cell phone.....lessons learned.
Family life and new addition to the family took most of my time as well as working on my own personal home. BUT I am back and have dove head first in all the educational materials I can get my hands on.....wife is in process of studying for her RE License in Nebraska to help out.
Like I said I am active duty AF and have 8 more years left before retirement.....my goal in life is to build up and build a portfolio that will allow me to work at my own pace after retirement and not scramble to make ends meet. My idea of "rich" is waking each day knowing that I am working because I want to and enjoy it....
Looking to just get my feet wet in wholesaling to help in building up knowledge and finances to allow me ability to buy and hold at a later date.....
Reading about mentors right now and if there is anyone in the Omaha area that wouldnt mind helping a newbie out it would be greatly appreciated....dont have vast knowledge to pass on but willing to learn and help out however I can be of help even to a "seasoned" investor!
Sorry for the long first post!!!

Dustin Skelton Welcome to BP! and Thank YOU for your service to our country. Have you filled out a keyword alert yet? Upper right side of page, under the yellow banner. That way you can put in the area, type of property, or ? and get notified when someone mentions that in forum.
Have fun snooping things out!

Dustin: Welcome and thank you for your service. As a Omahan you'll find the area fairly active in real estate with stable valuations. I am a multifamily owner and can't help much with wholesaling but have some contacts with brokers that may be able to help you. Bellevue (Offfut's location) is a good market and I was just there today touring a 76 unit apartment for possible purchase.
Karen Margrave: Thank you for the welcome and key word tip....have already setup the alerts!
Dennis Tierney: Thanks for the heads up on the area. Have never been in that part of the US and looking forward to it. Multi fam and apartments are where I would like to be long term.....so, if ok with you, maybe bounce questions off of you every once in a while? Dont have much experience to share but eager to learn and willing to work for guidance. Maybe you get that apartment complex and need someone to do some repairs or cleanup.....have skills in that area :).
Welcome Dustin!
Dustin,
Thanks for our freedom!! I would help ya out wholesaling if ya need it. I would rather do that than head to the middle east! LOL!
Feel free to PM me.
Sean Brennan: Thank you for the welcome!
Rob Gillespie: Thanks for the welcome!! Will be taking you up on that offer :)

Welcome Dustin Skelton! If you haven't yet, be sure to:

2.) Check out "The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investing."

Welcome to BP! Keep in touch! And don't forget a photo :)
Brandon Turner: Thank you for the welcome and the articles....have read most of those but will make sure to re-read as well. Already 1/2 way through the "Beginners Guide" as well.
Have a question for everyone and apologize if this isnt the right area to ask this.....if not please direct me to the right place :)
Quick "Networking" search of Nebraska brought up 184 people......
Light bulb went off....."Potential" buyers list right there in front of your eyes. The straight forward guy in me says "Send each one of them a message introducing yourself and lets get the ball rolling. But then my brain kicks in and wonders if that is ok to do?
Being how this site is setup for investors and all logic says go for it.....but the gut check of the "newb" says...hold on there!!
Thank you in advance for any assistance/guidance!!!

Hey Dustin Skelton - sort of. PMing is cool for networking (and smart) - but dealmaking. I mean, after a solid relationship is started, that's cool. But no one wants to get a message with an ad. Hope that helps some! Thanks for asking about that- most people just start spamming, then get banned :)
Brandon Turner Thanks for the reply......have already located a couple of potential deals but not being in the area at the time makes me a little nervous in talking with the seller right now......just real talk :)
Welcome to BP Dustin and thanks for your service. I just separated from the Air Force this past summer (Maintenance Officer), so I understand the challenges of investing while serving. You should consider adding a profile picture, it enhances interaction between members. Good luck to you!
Dustin Skelton I've actually recently separated from the Air Force and living in Omaha right now. I'd be happy to network with you and see how we can help each other. Feel free to PM me and let me know about the deals you have in mind, I may be able to help you out.
Josh Dotzler: Thanks!! Will be getting with you soon!!
Josh Dotzler and Dustin Skelton Happy to see some more Omaha BP members! I haven't done any deals in town yet but I am definitely interested in getting to know more about what you guys are looking at. I think our market has some great potential, but as a newbie it sure helps to talk to others in the same position.
Hi Dustin! are you investing in Alaska as well? I´m up here starting as a REI, it´s challenging but it´s worth it, hope to hear from you.
