New investor from Virginia
Hello all,
I have been reading real estate investing books and listening to the podcasts for a few months now. I am located in the Northern Virginia area, but I am headed down to college to finish my senior year in Lynchburg, Virginia.
I am looking for a start in real estate. The next book on my list is Brandon Turners on how to invest with no money down.
I am also very interested in establishing a meetup in Lynchburg. None currently exist to my knowledge, so it'd be a first!
If you're from either of my areas, let me know so I can get in contact with you!

I live in Lynchburg va but will be moving to Blacksburg Va in the near future. As far a I can tell there are no Real estate investment groups here. I am attending one in Roanoke Va. about an hour away from Lynchburg on Tuesday July 2. It will be my first time attending. I am very eager to learn and really need someone as motivated as I am to partner up with, either a partner or an accountability partner. If you are interest in starting an investment group I’ll be waiting. I am 27 with capital and a great credit score, so if we can find deals I can bring the rest. I am more interested in the Brrrr strategy because it just seems to make since. Message me so we can figure the details such as dates, locations, and just to see where we are both at.
Hi Dominic, welcome! I run my own meetup in Richmond. To be honest, man, my best advice for you is just start it. If I could go back in time and give myself one piece of advice, it would be exactly that.
Find a free room you can book at a library or something, post it online, collect attendee's names and emails, and be consistent. If something isn't working, change it. Try something new. Wasted time is infinitely more expensive than not getting it right the first time around.
You must keep going through tough times. My second month, ONE person came. Now, a couple years later, I have over 400 members and I get anywhere between 20 and 50 attendees. Some of my attendees now invest in my syndication deals.
Congratulations on getting in so young!
@Thomas Lee Nuckles hey! Thanks for the reply! I sent you a DM
@Taylor L. Wow! Thanks for the reply!
There is a library at Liberty University I could definitely hold these meetups in. My intention would be to discuss REI, plan FI/RE and analyze deals together.
What would be the best place to advertise these meetups? Obviously, I could put signs around school, but how can I have more targeted advertising?
Thanks so much!
Dom
There’s a rea in Lynchburg that meets on Thursday each month. It’s on meetup and they’ve got a website.
@Duane Hundley I cant seem to find it on meetup. Do you have a link by a chance?
@Dominic Cordaro I would be interested in a bigger pockets meet up in Lynchburg. There is already a REIA that meets at the Stoney Badger. I believe they meet the second Thursday of every month.
@Jacob Mashburn great! I think the biggerpockets meetup would be more concentrated on BP blogs and content. As well as using the BP calculator to analyze deals together. It'd probably be held on the Liberty University campus, but I'm sure other places could be possible.
