Newbie from St. Louis, MO

Hi Bigger Pockets,

I am a new to BP, started listening to podcasts a few weeks ago and searching the forums for answers to some of my questions. The site has been fantastic and I am grateful to have you all as a resource.

I am a medical device engineer and my wife is a sales professional. We are amateur real estate investors, with a 4 family and a VRBO looking to grow our portfolio. Ideally we are looking for buy and hold properties but have considered flipping a house or two, preferably in the St. Louis Missouri or surrounding areas. We are very secure in our professional careers but have seen the possibilities that REI can offer and can't help but want more. Not to mention we have a 3 month old baby girl and my wife is itching to spend more time with her.

@Dan Hoehn welcome to BP.  I live in San Diego; stationed there with the military.  But I'm originally from St Louis and my entire family still lives there (mostly in Florissant).  I own 3 rental units in AZ and CA, but this year I'm looking to buy in St Louis as well.  It certainly seems like a good time to invest in our city.  I'm currently deployed, but when I return to the U.S. I plan to make a trip out to St Louis so I can better assess in person what the possibilities are as well as hopefully meet some people I can work with (real estate agents, contractors, property managers, etc).  Good luck with your St Louis goals.  I'd love to hear some more about your future successes as you build your portfolio to hopefully teach me some more about what I need to do to be successful.

@Dan Hoehn I'm currently rehabbing one side of a duplex and renting out the other.  As soon as its rehabbed it'll be rented and I'll be looking for another deal.  I'm potentially interested in partnering up on a deal at some point, because its two eyes, two trains of thought, two people to do work if needed.  Let me know if you're interested and/or if you want to talk about where the two of us invest and what we see.

Dan Hoehn , I too am a STL resident. I'm looking to purchase my first property soon and would love to pick your brain maybe on how your personal experience has panned out and come to be. I have a 4 month old son whom I never get to see bc of traveling so much for work. I have a great salary ($80k a year) and have been able to save a good amount to get going just wanting to learn and read as much as possible to have the best info going forward.
