Happy to Be Here in Bigger Pockets! Raleigh, NC
Hey everyone. I am new to Bigger Pockets as I was referred here from a local real estate agent here in Raleigh, NC who I have been working with lately. We connected last week and he is going to show me one of his rehab properties he is doing in the area next week so I am really excited for that! I am a local Chiropractor/Business owner in Raleigh and I am ready to expand my knowledge and income portfolio in real estate.
After educating myself and 'following' the markets here in Raleigh for the last 10-12 months, it is time to find a mentor to show me the ropes so I can learn under first which is where I am starting at. I am also going to start attending local REIA to make some contacts and meet other investors.
I am going to be dealing in the 27609,27610, 27615, 27616 zip codes as these are the areas I am most familiar with. Interested in Buy/Hold Rentals, Wholesale deals, rehab projects.
Anyways, I am happy to be here and ready to grow in this community. Look forward to connecting with anyone in the area. Whatever it takes:) Rock on!
Zack Scott
Hello, I'm in the same boat, I'm new to bigger pockets and I'm in the Raleigh, Cary area, while I'm not new to investing in real state, I'm returning after a long pause and getting as much knowledge as I can, great info on the Internet and some great podcasts.
Looking forward to connect to investor in the are as well!
Juan.

Hey @Zachary Scott and @Juan Moreno, welcome to BP!
Zachary, I think you're very wise to seek out a mentor. Sounds like you're doing all the right things! If you haven't already, I would strongly recommend listening to this podcast:
https://www.biggerpockets.com/renewsblog/2016/03/17/modeling-greatness-matt-aitchison/
Matt gives some really great insight on how to avoid a lot of the pitfalls of investing by learning from successful people.
Since you're both new to the site, here are a few tips to help you get the most out of BP and kickstart your investing career:
Start here. You'll get a wealth of REI knowledge and learn how to take full advantage of Bigger Pockets (including how to connect with other local investors).
Listen to the podcasts , get active on the forums & set up key word alerts to be notified when people are discussing topics you're interested in.
Check out the webinars, they are very informative, and there’s usually a new one every week.
I wish you both the best!
Welcome to BP! There's no shortage of members that are here in the RTP area so you should have no trouble finding other local investors to network with.
If you're free this Thursday evening we're having a meetup for BP members and friends at Ruckus Pizza in Morrisville at 6pm. It will be a great opportunity to get from behind the screen and network with some local members who you'll be interacting with here on the site. Stay active on BP and good things will happen!
Michael,
Thanks for the invite! I see patients until 6pm and usually cannot get away from my office until 6:30pm. I'll see what I can do though. Any other dates you know of that you guys are meeting up? Thanks.
Zack
@Zachary Scott and @Juan Moreno,
I recommend you join TREIA and attend the New Investor meetings that Tim Masters runs once a month. Our upcoming Deal Maker Sessions is this Monday night (free--wholesalers present non-MLS investment grade properties). Zachary, regarding looking for a mentor, here are some thoughts:
1. Recognize that the mentor will want to be paid. Either hourly or % of profit from a deal in some form, or you pay for a class...
2. When looking for a mentor, talk to students who have graduated from that mentor's program.
3. Understand specifically what type of mentoring you are looking for. Do you want help finding properties, negotiating deals, being a landlord...etc.
I'm glad to have a brief phone conversation to point you in a direction if you need help. I'm not a guru selling books/tapes/classes.
Adam
Thanks for that information. In regards to paying a mentor etc, I am just meeting up with a local agent who is also into rehabbing properties, buy/hold, wholesale. We are just meeting at one of his properties and going to do lunch and connect some. I dont know if he has students that have graduated or not but I am just looking for someone that will allow me to come up under their wing so to speak, learn from them and in return, I can help them out in any way(handyman type work, etc.) to make their time worth it rather than paying some exorbitant fee that most big name mentor programs ask for.
If this is not the case with this meet up next week, then I will keep networking, attending meetings and learning some other way. Please let me know what you think here.
Getting on a call would be great, let me know how you want to go about this. Leave your number if youre okay with that and we can text on a time we can chat. Thanks Adam!
Zack
We do them the last Thursday of every month and it's just an informal networking event so it's not a big deal if you can't be there right at 6. You're more than welcome to stop by once you get outta the office.
