To all the female investors!!!
To all the amazing women investors on BP! My name is Jenny Cunningham from FL, I started investing in real estate about 2 years ago with my partner (male) and have mainly focused on doing flips while recently looking to get into the rental market as well. As I'm sure you all know being a female in the investing world has its challenges of which I have faced with many with people not showing me the same respect as my partner receives. I did some quick searches but can't find any groups directed to women investors and I want to see if anyone is interested in a female group chat where we can bounce ideas, questions or anything to do with the investing world and help each other out! I think it would be very beneficial for the less experienced investors to get a chance to talk to the experienced investors and hear some of the challenges they have been able to overcome as a female investor. Hoping this can help everyone from the beginner to some of the most experienced. If you're interested please comment here or send me a quick message. I'd love to hear from everyone!!

Please understand, I'm not putting down people having facebook pages to encourage each other in real estate investing , etc. But, as was mentioned in an earlier post, that's what BP is, an entire community of people interested in the business of real estate in one way or another, supporting each other in our endeavors.
I found BP when we relocated to a new area that I knew nothing about. I needed to get up to speed quickly, figure out the niche that made sense, and start rebuilding our business after the market crash. I stumbled upon BP. I quickly found valuable information, but also realized I had a lot to give in the way of my experience over the years in real estate and construction, and loved answering posts and trading ideas, stories, etc. with others in other areas.
By coming on BP consistently, reading posts that are of interest, listening to podcasts, webinars, etc. and most importantly, interacting with other members, a person will over time build a solid network of other BP members that you can rely on, and yes, one of those groups you build can be other women. I also have contractors, engineers, investors, lenders, etc. that I pop in on when I don't know the answer to something, and others that just have different experience in a niche I want to learn about. BP is like a goldmine, and I love this site!

Thank you @Account ClosedI definitely ignore the haters and only look at positive comments. This is why women need a place to go where we can voice our opinions and thoughts without people's negative input. This post was meant to be a positive thing and not written to offend or bring negative comments. Thank you to all the ladies who have joined the discussion, it's been great!

Karen, I agree that BP is a fabulous one stop shop for RE info. Personally, I don't like facebook and only log in about once a month. I'd much prefer to have such a group set up on BP. How can we make that happen? Women's forum?
@Jenny CunninghamI am down! lets start the questions
I'd be interested as well @Jenny Cunningham. I've been meeting with several female RE investors in Austin, TX over the past few months as I solidify my business structure. Several of them have shared some gender-specific tips. Most have indicated that they felt being a woman had been advantageous to them - particularly in working with contractors, which I found somewhat surprising. I'd be happy to share and learn!
I'd love to join! I'm a general contractor and real estate agent in Tacoma, Washington.
Hi @Jenny Cunningham--I think that's a great idea. I am new to the investing game and can definitely use some great advice before i purchase my 1st rental property. I reside in NJ, have been looking for a multifamily around my area (Newark, NJ) and have recently been going to Philadelphia/Allentown area of PA because the taxes are so much cheaper there. It would be great to hear from fellow investors!!
Add me
Fabulous! This is exactly what we need. I love when women come together to support one another. Real Estate investing is for sure dominated by men and it can be intimidating especially when you feel patronized. I'm excited to see where this group leads us.
What is the FB group called so I can request to join?
it's called "Women's Real Estate Investors Group" come join the discussions!
Great idea @Jenny Cunningham- I've been thinking about this as well and created "Women in Investing". It's a group on Slack (not a fan of FB!)
I had been looking for groups dedicated to women investors but couldn't find any. I also think it would be awesome to expand the group to investors across different asset classes. We all have much to contribute whether it be real estate, equity, debt or any other asset classes. If you are interested to join it, please provide your name and email on this google form: http://goo.gl/forms/vUEimXDjuU. You will receive an invite in your email.
Count me in please!!!!
@J. Martin, now that is a plan to get excited about! I will definitely consider starting one!
Please add my name to the group!!!!!
I'm in
!
As a female general contractor and investor I would like to be included as well and would be happy to add my "two cents" with regards to my experiences. There are definitely pros and cons.
Excellent idea, count me in!

Great post!!! There are many amazing women on BP! And more coming out to meetups, and a few women's RE meetups. Here is a thread I started before that has feedback from other women on their thoughts on meetups, how to make them more comfortable for women, likes/dislikes, etc. I'm sure you know many of these things already, but maybe some can get ideas flowing for others too... :) (ahhhem!!! Men out there!! @John Thedford.. )
Way to start a group and MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
I'd also like to share some of the extra informative women on BP that I've been following over the years, in case you find them as helpful in the future as I have:
@Brie Schmidthas been inspiring to me, as another young investor breaking free with RE to travel and enjoy life :) @Elizabeth Colegroveis a super sharp landlord with a BP blog I got to see again in person recently :) @Marcia Maynardwas nice enough to come out to speak at my Summit in SF as a great landlord (and person) and one of the prolific female landlord contributors to BP. @Jean Bolgerhas been an insightful contributor on BP, and one of the few on this list I haven't had the opportunity to meet in person.
@K. Marie P. knows more about the technical side of RE than I could probably learn in 3 lifetimes. @Shiloe B.is awesome and knows construction very well. @BeBe Chenghas been doing some great deals with similar sorts of properties I dabble in. @Account Closeddoes really well with a totally different strategy (that I really like too!). @Mel Selvidgeis a great person who's active on the forums and a local agent. @Anja Breyis a super awesome person!.. and might be interested..
These women have collectively have thousands of posts and votes on BP, decades of RE knowledge, hundreds of transactions, are awesome people to learn from, and in some cases, you'll get to know great folks! So get started in person sooner than later :) Great post!
@Penny Clark, you missed Al's Summit in Sac last weekend!! Time for you to start your own Sacramento RE Meetup!?
CONGRATS TO ALL THE WOMEN OF BP WHO ARE OUT THERE MAKING IT HAPPEN! AND DON'T LET THE HATERS WHO TRY TO TELL YOU WHAT SEXISM IS (OR IS NOT) LIKE DERAIL YOUR PLANS!!
Thanks for tagging me, @J. Martin!
Not sure if I am being ignorant here, but I'm probably one of those few that never really feel discriminated when it comes to my gender. I'm quite a rookie in real estate investment and was very happy to learn stuff from my female and male counterparts, especially those I met thru BP, like the good ol' @Amit M. (this tagging thingy is not working!) and our own J. Martin! And got lots of knowledge from @Clare H.
We have regular get together with this small group of peeps and I always come home with more knowledge everytime. So with that said, I agree with someone here who said it could be counter productive if we exclude the men from our group. But of course, to each his/her own.
Hi I work with investors nationwide, based just outside of Chicago.
Jenny Cunningham
I think taking it outside of BP could exclude a lot of new people that get added to BP on a regular basis. Trying to think... Is there a way we could always start a thread with a *Females* to denote that we are connecting to each other... Then we could still post the topics under their correct headings? I think FB would be difficult compared to BP being specifically designed for continuous conversation. Thoughts??? Thanks for intimating!
I think that's a great idea. My business partner is female also. I will make a suggestion of a great book. The author attended my REIA for a while and I really enjoyed talking with her as a newbie starting up because she was so encouraging. The book is "Sun Tzu for Women: The Art of War for Winning in Business" by Becky Sheetz-Runkle. On Amazon. I found it really enlightening as it points out how the problem is often inside your head to begin with and affects how you present yourself to others. Chapter 5 on "Respect from the inside" is very helpful. I work on this on a daily basis. Yes maybe initially others may start out thinking your are "just a woman" but be patient with them and show them how your handle yourself with integrity and industry. You don't have to know everything but show that you know how to ask good questions and find answers. Just be patient while others overcome their false assumptions....they are the ones with a problem. Or if they don't, they will begin to look stupid to others who see your growing contributions and value. Anyway, a great read. I go back and re-read sections when I need a boost.
Just stumbled across this and I am interested.
