NYS Eviction Moratorium extended again
Well, we knew it was coming.
https://www.news10.com/news/ny...
NYS Legislature kicking the can down the road by continuing to force property owners to finance and operate their businesses FOR FREE.
But they haven't really extended the moratorium, you see - that would be difficult to defend in the public eye. I mean, two years of free housing "'cuz COVID", and record numbers of job openings at all levels. But what they've done is opened up applications for ERAP (Emergency Rental Assistance Program) again, despite publicly declaring there is no money left to be issued. Why, you ask? Well, the law in NYS says that tenants cannot be evicted if they have an application pending for ERAP. So, the deadbeat tenant as "applied", but their application is in limbo because there is no money. The program has been directed to suspend those applications, not deny them. Voila! de facto moratorium extension that escapes public scrutiny.
Oh, and they're currently working on getting a bill to the governor's desk for "good cause" eviction. We already have statewide rent control.
We've gotten the message in my household loud and clear. My wife as already taken a job down South. I am in the process of transitioning the business and settling our affairs here in NY and then I am going to join her down in the United States.
This really makes me angry. I feel like New York has abandoned me. No, actually worse - obligated me to work for free and taken away any control over my business. I cannot wait to leave.
This started out being a post to inform, but turned into a rant. Sorry.
